Connecting Musicians with Causes They Care About
Connected by Music
Music is a powerful way to create empathy and understanding, and Connected by Music (CBM) is a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to using the power of music to support a connected, sustainable society and planet. Through our support and programs, we are finding ways to use music to connect people to themselves and to others – from a sense of isolation and helplessness to a place of connection and hope.
Founded by musician Marilyn Walker in 2023, CBM's initial efforts all used her extraordinary talent to create music that is simultaneously insightful and delightful. CBM is now focusing on finding ways to assist musicians, venues, and organizations providing direct aid, advocacy, and education to work together in a spirit of mutual support.

Connected by Music Accomplishments
- Raised over $5,000 for Boulder-based non-profit organization TGTHR through an eTown show, house concert, and album launch. TGTHR provides safe shelter and supportive services to young people ages 12-24 who are experiencing homelessness or on the cusp of it.
- Commissioned by the Resonance Women’s Chorus to add The World is Watching Over You to their spring 2024 performance, Map in the Dark. This song was written as a lullaby and prayer to the innocents who are caught in war zones. (Listen here)
- Began to work with affiliate Colorado musicians who wish to assist and participate.
- Launched Busking for Change, an easy to implement starter program for mission-driven musicians.
“I originally created Connected by Music because I wanted a means to donate all the proceeds from my music activities. I spent 20 years researching the ways in which our planet is changing, and doing my best to communicate what those changes would mean for life on Earth. We cannot wait. We must all act now. I'm excited about finding other mission-driven musicians who want to find new ways to share their message.” - Marilyn Walker
“Bravo on all your hard work, creativity, and opening doors to introduce others to TGTHR. All of these efforts are helping hundreds of young people in our community receive housing and supportive services to help them on their journey to independence. Thank you for helping youth grow and thrive!” - Amanda Clayton

“I joined Connected by Music to connect with organizations championing solutions to gun violence. Last year, my family was intimately impacted by gun violence. I use songwriting to raise awareness and to advocate for the difficult and empathetic conversations crucial for bringing about positive change. Connected by Music serves as a bridge, allowing me to connect with organizations that share my goals. Together, we create positive social impact through the great unifier of all: music.” - Karen Horan
